Device Use and Care

Why am I not seeing all the lights?

The lights (LEDs) you are not seeing are in the infrared (I/R) spectrum and are not visible to the human eye. In devices with a combination of infrared LEDs and other red or blue lights, you will see the red and amber LEDs, but you will not be able to see the infrared lights. Some cellphone cameras and high-speed digital cameras are able to pick up on the LEDs in this spectrum. By using one of those devices, you may be able to see them.

How close should I hold the device?

It’s recommended that you hold the device directly on the skin. For our handheld products, hold the device steady on the treatment area for the recommended time. When using our hands free products, keep the device stationary for each treatment cycle.

How long should I use the device?

Treatment times vary by device and application. We recommend 3 minutes per treatment area for acne and wrinkle reduction light therapy treatments. Pain recovery devices will vary between 14 and 25 minutes, depending on the device and target treatment. Oral health care varies from 10 minutes to 20 minutes depending on the application. Consult the instructions that come with the product before use. Contact our customer care specialists for additional information.

Why are reVive Light Therapy™ treatment usage times shorter than other light therapy devices on the market?

Our optical output energy start at a higher spectrum that shorten the amount of time needed to create an effect. Unlike other devices that have less optical output energy will require a longer time to perform and see results.

How do I clean the device?

  1. Turn device off and unplug from any power source.
  2. Do not clean the LED lights with any liquid or damp cloth. Use an air blower device like a blow dryer or compressed air duster (keyboard cleaner) to remove particles and dust from LEDs.
  3. Clean device exterior with damp cloth or rubbing alcohol.
  4. Allow to dry completely prior to use.

How do I test my skin sensitivity to light therapy?

Test yourself for light sensitivity prior to initial treatment:

  1. Power on device.
  2. Place device on or no more than ¼” from the skin on your forearm for 3 minutes.
  3. After 3 minutes, check the area. If area has turned red and lasts for more than 2 hours, your skin is light sensitive.
  4. Discontinue use and contact Customer Service at support@revive-light-therapy.com

Acne Treatment

How does acne treatment work?

If used regularly, your blue light device will help destroy bacteria that causes acne. When acne flares up, light therapy can be used for spot treatments as well as long-term care for larger areas of the face, back, or body. The efficacy of blue light therapy for mild-to-moderate facial acne was researched in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology.

How long is the recommended acne treatment time?

It is recommended that you use your acne treatment device for 3 minutes per treatment area. Hold the light therapy device steady, directly on the skin. When using our “hands free” light therapy device, keep the device stationary (without moving) for each treatment cycle. Once the time expires, move to the next treatment area. Avoid pointing the light directly at your eyes. Use goggles for extra protection.

Can I use the device directly on my face?

Yes, the device can make direct contact with your skin. At minimum, it should be 1⁄4” from the skin’s surface or closer. It will never get too warm to be uncomfortable.

Should I wear my goggles when using light therapy for acne?

When using the acne device (blue LEDs) around the eye area, we recommend that you use some type of eye protection for example tanning goggles. Additionally, the blue lights can be very bright, so we recommend that your eyes are closed during treatments on the face or near the eyes.

How long will it be before I have results?

For acne treatments using blue light therapy, you will see results fairly quickly. Sometimes after a single treatment. For severe acne breakouts, the number of treatments will increase due to the bacteria levels. Users will start seeing overall skin condition improve as well as diminished breakouts, redness, and irritation of the skin due to acne. It is recommended that you use the light therapy device regularly to keep acne causing bacteria at bay.

Based on reVive Light Therapy’s own ten (10) week consumer study, 100% of the participants saw improvement in 3 to 4 of the following areas:

  • Reduction of pores
  • Improvement of skin tone
  • Improvement of skin texture
  • Overall skin condition.

Can the acne devices be used with other skin care products?

Avoid products containing retinol or that have light activated ingredients while using light therapy. It is recommended to use such products after your light therapy treatment.

Do I need to take off my makeup before using light therapy?

Yes, make up will need to be removed. Most makeups have SPF sunscreen in them, which can limit the efficacy of the light therapy device.

What is the difference between laser treatments and blue light therapy?

Laser treatments are more powerful than blue treatments. Most laser treatments will have to be administered by a skin care professional, esthetician, or dermatologist. Our light therapy devices can be used in the comfort of your home or office. It is a non-invasive device that penetrates deep into the skin.

Is blue light therapy treatment for acne painful?

No. Unlike lasers, injections, or other invasive treatments, blue light therapy is a non-thermal, non-ablative, and non-invasive treatment. Clients report no discomfort or pain associated with light therapy treatments.

Wrinkle Reduction

How often should I use light therapy for anti-aging treatments?

If you just started using red light therapy for anti-aging treatments, you may want to start off with once a day use, and do that for perhaps the first 45-60 days. After that you may continue to use the system daily, or you may decrease it to 2-3 times per week, or even less, such as once per week, depending on works for you and your schedule.

Everyone’s skin is different and will experience different benefits when using red light therapy. However, the efficacy of red light therapy for reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging, such as fine lines, skin roughness, and low collagen density, was researched in the Photomedicine and Laser Surgery journal.

How long should anti-aging treatments last?

For anti-aging applications, we recommend to leave the system on one treatment area for 3 minutes. Holding the device steady and not moving around. After 3 minutes you will move to the next treatment area. Many customers start with a small product like Glō by reVive Light Therapy and move up.

When should I expect to see results?

For anti-aging, you should expect to see results in 6-12 weeks depending on a range of contributing factors that make this difficult to answer definitively, including genetics, age, habits that impact skin health (including smoking and sun exposure), skincare routine, and light therapy routine. To see the gradual and cumulative effects, take pictures before treatment and each week thereafter with clean skin, using the same camera; with the same lighting, angle, pose, and expression; and at the same time of day. Our FDA-Clearance is based on a single 3-minute treatment per day. For the best results, we recommend up to 3x per day, per area.

Based on reVive Light Therapy’s own ten (10) week consumer study, 97% of the participants reported visible improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin tone, with:

  • 77% of the subjects rating their improvement in fine lines at the highest levels of Good, Above Average, or Significant over the 10-week treatment cycle
  • 69% of the subjects rating their improvement in crow’s feet at the highest levels of Good, Above Average, or Significant over the 10-week treatment cycle
  • 92% of the subjects rating their improvement in skin tone at the highest levels of Good, Above Average, or Significant over the 10-week treatment cycle

Is red light therapy dangerous for my skin or eyes?

The light therapy system for anti-aging does not have any harmful UV rays and it will not cause damage to the skin or eyes. The system is safe to use around the eye area as well.

Studies show no harmful effects to the eyes when using red light therapy. The LEDs are bright, however; it is preferred that your eyes are closed while using the device around the eye area. Never look directly at the lights when the system is turned on. Optional goggles are provided for your use.

Can I use the device directly on my face?

Yes, the device can make direct contact with face. For maximum benefits, don’t hold it further away than 1⁄4” from the skin’s surface.

Is it safe to use on the neck?

Yes. If you have any concerns we recommend consulting your physician or primary care professional.

Should I use creams or topical or have a clean face?

Wrinkle-reduction light therapy devices can be used alone or with skin care products such as peptides and hyaluronic acids. Many skin care professionals and estheticians have found that by combining light therapy with peptides, hyaluronic acid, green tea, and white tea, they are able to achieve increased results.

You should avoid products containing retinol or light activated ingredients while using the device, however. It is recommended to use such products after your treatment.

It is also recommended to use the system on a clean face first. When introducing light therapy to your skin, we recommend that you do a skin sensitivity test and use the device without a topical products or creams to determine how your skin responds to the light therapy.

Do I need to take off my makeup before using the device?

If using a red light therapy device, makeup will need to be removed. Light therapy penetrates below the skin’s surface. Many beauty products contain SPF sunscreen, which will block the penetration of the LEDs.
